I want to share with you a video some time ago in which Paul Dietz demonstrates one of the limitations of the actual touch and multitouch technology (for large format displays): the 100ms latency.
This means, as you can see in the video, that moving a finger to a speed of one meter per second, if we were dragging an object, that would be 10 centimeters behind our finger because of latency.
In most scenarios the user is usual to this behavior but, in my opinion, the designer must keep in mind this behavior when he designs user experience so that the ux can take advantage of this.
That is why I strongly discourage any type of UX where you should write or draw on the screen.
As you can see from the video when you try to draw the effect you get is anything but natural.
A scenario in which the user feels confortable is the use of ScatterView and SctarreViewItem where, even if the latency in moving objects is always present, the bad effect is mitigated by the use of physics appied to controls thanks to which the SctarreViewItem doesn’t stops when he releases his finger from the surface, the control continues moving decelerating thanks to a natural inertia.
This is just the same behavior that the user will experience if we place some piece paper on a table and he try to drag this around the table.
The UX scenario described above is applicable to a multitouch large format display in witch users can collaborate together and interact with the multitouch surface at the same time-
